Light uses the Death Note to kill the FBI agents on the Kira case. One of the agents was Raye Penber. After his death, Penber’s fiancée Naomi Misora, former FBI agent, begins working on the case on her own. She believes Kira was on the bus with her fiancé, that information that may lead to Light’s capture.

Light runs into Naomi at the police station, she talks to him about her suspicions. At first she gives him a fake name. While talking Light writes the name she gave him on a page of the Death Note, but she doesn’t die. Ryuk (the Shinigami who can see people’s names and life span) begins laughing and Light realizes she gave him a fake name. Light tricks her and says he’s working on the Kira case and asks for her ID, which she gives to him…

During Light’s encounter with Naomi, a few members of the police who don’t fear losing their lives get to meet L in person so they can trust him. L believes that one of two families that Penber was investigating has Kira so he places cameras in both families’ homes. One of these families is Light’s.

Light is beginning to get a God-complex, it’s crazy how smart he is. I really liked Naomi and wish she would have become a main character. I love L, he’s strange and quirky, and Ryuk cracks me up.

The first volume I was rooting for Light, now I’m rooting for L, as I did for the anime as well. Of course since I watched the anime first, I already know everything that will happen. It’s still a really great story and fun to read. I highly recommend it.
