2-in-1 Mini Review (poetry books)

all these
angst-ridden
tumblr poets
need to realize
that hitting the enter bar
randomly
and putting sentences
like this
does not make it poetry
– free verse has some kind of rhythm, form and purpose

I understand the pain and hardships the authors have faced in their lives (sexual abuse, losing loved ones, self harm, eating disorders, etc), and like the messages they were trying to send, but these books just screamed “I’m wallowing in self-pity and want people to feel bad for me!” the entire time.

A lot of the poems in both books were really short, like 10 words or less, and there was one per page. Those poor trees.

Two stars to both Milk and Honey, and The Princess Saves Herself in This One.
